Nine Howard University students were led by Ethel Hedgemon (Lyle) into forming a sisterhood in 1908. Five years later, Nellie Quander and her gallant and visionary associates contributed the added dimension of an international organization and perpetual membership.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated^® is proud of her more than 1,074 chapters and more than 360,000 initiated members in 11 nations and all states.

MONTHLY CHAPTER MEETINGS

We invite all graduate members to attend our monthly Chapter Meetings, held on the second Saturday of each month from September to June at 10:30 am. If you reside in the Downriver Communities of Michigan or are looking for a new chapter home, we would love to host you at our next chapter meeting! Please contact our Membership Chairman via email at agtomembership@gmail.com for the meeting location.

REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND CHAPTER MEETINGS

In accordance with Sorority Guidelines and Chapter Standards, members are asked to provide two forms of identification (one Primary and one Secondary) for meeting entry. Primary Identification is any government-issued ID. Secondary Identifications to confirm membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated®:

A current or past financial card (in most cases, the name listed should match the Primary ID; exceptions: maiden name, married name)
A copy of your original membership certificate signed by our International Office
A receipt from a Cluster, Regional Conference or Boule that contains your name
An invitation from an active chapter member
